Each time I look back at this Easter from 2002, I see Mom’s piano back there in the corner and I miss her playing us to sleep at night.
Here is a page from her life history, talking about her beginnings with music and her piano teacher, Mrs. Burt.
Here is Mrs. Burt playing the piano with her sister on the violin and her parents watching.
I thought I would show you just a few photographs of the musicians in our family down through the ages. Starting with this picture from Great Grandma Dorothy Andrus Crane Price’s album.
I found this photo in a book on Maineville, Ohio, when we visited looking for genealogy on the Crane family. Our Grandpa in a Saxophone Horn Band in 1859!
This is Helen Josephine Andrus a very great aunt, I shall write more on her, and her music, later.
This is a room in the James Lincoln Price home in Denver, Colorado in the early 1900’s. Notice the guitar standing there and the piano to the side.
Next we have Aunt Glady’s Crane with her banjo while she was in College.
Here are Donna and Patricia Price in Harbor Springs, with their violins.
Donna Price in her Band Uniform, she played the French Horn like I did. About 1940.
Here is Jimmy and Donald Price singing together.
Jimmy Price as the lead in Brigadoon in Petoskey, Michigan. About 1946.
These two have Grandpa Donald Price in Barbershop, he’s the dapper one on the right.
Here is a fun photo of Karlene on their piano in Harbor Springs. The same one Arnold is sitting at below.
Here is Arnold Howse on the trumpet. He had his two band buddies, Gerald and Ronnie, over to practice.
This is the Harbor Springs First Presbyterian Choir, 1953. My Grandma Donna and Grandma Gertrude are in this photo along with my Great Uncle Lloyd~ can you spot them? Donna and Lloyd often were the soloists here.
Here is Donna to the right, singing with her Barberettes.
Donna on the left, with the Barberettes
singing in front of Juillerettes in Harbor Springs.
(They had the best olive burgers and Boston Coolers around!) I found this cute photograph Grandpa Heinz took of Bethany on their old piano, this is the one mom learned to play on. Bethany was already a pretty good piano player herself by that time.
Here Bethany and Darby are singing with their High School Choir, along with my best friend Becky to the left. About 1978.
Here is Jared in a little violin solo in Hamilton, Illinois. Shilo is the little girl in pink watching. Suzuki Violin Class recital Christmas 1987.
Jared all grown up and the leader of the band in the 24th of July Pioneer Parade in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2000.
Shilo with her saxophone at a Jazz Band Competition at BYU in 1998.
And our latest photo is of Silas at his Christmas Recital, December 2013, in Murray, Utah.
Silas had both his Great Aunt Bethany
and her daughter BreeAnne
as his piano teachers.
I hope you liked this little visual of your ancestors and music, and always remember to enjoy music in all it’s varieties.
